We've all been there. Sitting in the sitting room, staring out at the driving rain, and wondering if the Lego blocks will be enough fun for the next four hours. Don't worry — there are some brilliant places to take your wee child on a rainy day in Glasgow. Check out the listings on our

Museums
Glasgow's museums are becoming ever more child-friendly: the reopened
Kelvingrove Museum is a perfect example of how fun and interactive
museum displays can keep kids entertained for hours. The Science
Centre also has dozens of levers to pull and buttons to press and see
what happens. In the future, the new Riverside Museum promises to be equally rewarding for small Glaswegians. Watch this space for new developments!
Indoor spaces
If you need to be downtown, you might want to stop in these places to
let your child crawl or walk freely. Many shopping-trips-with-baby
have been rescued from meltdown disasters by quick trips to the nearest large indoor space!
Libraries
Many Glasgow libraries have children's rooms, which hold many
children's books, CDs and DVDs, and child-sized tables and chairs.
Some also have a few toys, and weekly song and story Bounce and Rhyme sessions.
Playgroups
Playgroups give babies and toddlers fun weekly indoor play sessions, with lots of toys they don't have at home. Playgroups also give their parents some good company over coffee. Finding the right playgroup for you and your child may take some trial and error, but luckily there are many to choose from. If you know of a good one that's not listed here, please write to tell us about it!
Soft play
Toddlers love these large indoor play centres, which give them lots of opportunities for running, jumping and climbing, even on rainy days. We've listed ones that we've visited here. If you've really enjoyed visiting another one with your child, please write to let us know!
Mum and baby cinema
"Mum-and-baby cinema" mornings are the perfect fix for new mums who are
longing to rejoin the adult world again. At these special screenings of
popular new films, parents are welcome to bring along their babies. No
one minds if the babies eat, squirm or cry in the theatre — everyone's
in the same boat! Age limits vary (see listings for details), but most
places welcome babies, but not toddlers.
